Kookbox Has Landed
Joel Tudor's new board company, Kookbox, has just launched their new website.
I can't wait to see people's reactions about how this stuff doesn't work, looks weird, is lame, will never outperform a thruster, etc.
This shit wasn't made for you. Much like Arrogant Bastard wasn't made for the average beer queer. You like it or you don't. Do me a favor, and read the label of an Arrogant Bastard...it's the truth.
Sell out for Surftech? Whatver. Burned you at Swami's, deal with it.
I know all of the designer hippies at Mollusk, Thalia, and Shelter will be creamin' their jeans for some of these sleds.
The trailer for Shorter looks bitchin' too.
Seriously?

PRESS RELEASE
(Quiksilver, Torquay, Victoria) September 25, 2008 -- Quiksilver, the world's leading surfwear manufacturer is collaborating with Sydney-based designer Sam Elsom and his label elsom, creating a limited release collection of luxurious, hand-tailored garments for men.
The elsom collection will consist of suiting, a naval waterman coat, two dress shirts, an organic denim jean, an organic t-shirt, a belt and neck-tie.
This collaboration will be a first for Quiksilver and elsom.
Quiksilver will undertake the manufacturing of most of the collection; however the elsom Australian handcrafted suit and organic denim jean will be wholly produced by elsom's own tailors in a limited run of just 300. The elsom suit is expected to retail for roughly AU$1200. The entire elsom collection will be distributed for sale internationally via Quiksilver's retail outlets and be available as of March 2009.
An outstanding feature of the elsom garments will be the luxurious organic textiles used in their construction. Traditional and innovative materials are sourced by elsom from around the world; notably horsehair canvas from a company in Antwerp, Belgium and exclusive Italian milled textiles made from sustainable organic cotton traded fairly from developing nations including India and Pakistan.
Quiksilver's Men's Designer Ryan Scanlon: "We're really excited about this collaboration. Sam (Elsom) is renowned for the understated beauty and simplicity he brings to fashion and his dedication to sourcing the highest quality sustainable textiles is unwavering - and that is something that is very important to Quiksilver."
Sam Elsom: "To me, Quiksilver is a huge and successful company that has maintained its integrity with respect to the land, the ocean and giving back to the community. In the society in which we all now live, it's refreshing to see this."
Members of Quiksilver's global surf team are tipped to be among the first recipients of the hand-crafted suits with expectations of them being worn for the first time at the 2008/09 Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship crowning scheduled for February 2009 on Queensland's Gold Coast.

"And what did you write your song about?"
'I'm the greatest guitar player alive.'
story taken from pitchforkmedia.com
Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds allegedly got himself into another altercation last night (September 18), this time with garage guru Arish "King" Khan. According to multiple sources, including a report by Chad Radford for Creative Loafing Atlanta's Crib Notes blog, Hinds punched Khan in the face, sending him to the hospital, after an appearance in Atlanta at the Highland Inn Lounge's weekly Kirkwood Ballers Club open mic.
Khan played the gig to support his friend and Atlanta scene fixture BJ Womack. Kristin Klein, King Khan's manager, told Pitchfork that Womack was "just diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, so Arish came into Atlanta from Berlin...to see [Womack], because it could be the last time he sees our friend." Frank Jensen-- Womack's "best friend of, like, 25 years [and] the drummer for [Chicago bands] the Tyrades and the Busy Signals"-- also flew into Atlanta to play the gig with Khan and Womack. (Klein also provided these photos.)
According to Klein, the trio (plus drummer Jessica Juggz) played a few songs, including a cover of Them's "Gloria", before Hinds, who was in attendance, spontaneously joined them on guitar. "Brent was fucking around with Arish's guitar," says Klein. "Arish dumped a beer on Brent's head, and then after the show was over, Arish went outside and was like, 'Hey man, sorry about the beer. Let me buy you a drink.' And Brent said, 'Do you know who I am?' And Arish said, 'No, not really. Kind of. I don't know.' And Brent said, 'I'm the greatest guitar player alive.' And Arish said, 'Well okay man, but this is all about our friend BJ, you know?' And he went to walk away and he got sucker punched. Split his lip open."
Klein took Arish to the Atlanta Medical Center, where Khan "ended up getting three stitches in his lip."
Before leaving for the hospital, Klein approached Hinds. "After I got Arish an ice pack and some salt water to swish out, I went up to Brent and was like, 'Hey man, that was a little bit fucked up," she said. "We gotta go to the hospital and get stitches instead of hanging out, this night, with our friend. The least you can do is pay for his stitches. It's like $150 [to] walk in.' He was like, 'I only got $80.' I was like, 'Okay.' He was like, 'It was a dick move, but I'm a dick sometimes.' He gave us the cash, which was cool. It was nice of him to do that.
"Then we went to the hospital, and the bill was actually $2,700," Klein said, laughing.
According to Klein, "everything is cool" now between the two parties, and Khan will not take legal action. "I took him to the airport, and he's on a plane to San Francisco where he's gonna be playing with a reunited Gris Gris at Urban Outfitters on Saturday," she said. "We went this morning to breakfast with our friend. [Khan] was in town for BJ... I don't want [that] to get overshadowed because these two goons in rock bands freaked out."
Pitchfork has been in touch with a representative at Mastodon's label, but we've not yet received any comment from Hinds or the band.
For his part, Khan seems to be recovering nicely. In the aforementioned Crib Notes post, he told Creative Loafing, "It sucked to get punched in the face, but I live for these kinds of adventures and I love this town."
This is Khan after getting shamed.BTW . . . Im sure Stefan is going to have a story like this within a couple years.

Fun For the Whole Family!
Hey folks, if you guys don't have anything to do tomorrow night and are in the mood to see some extremely angry bands play(I know I always am!) then by all means come out to this show. Pressvre, Crucified, and a few others are gonna be playing, should be a hoot. Its gonna be at the Pharaoh's Den in Riverside (3579 University Ave, Riverside CA). Starts at 7pm costs 8 bones. Some other rad shows this weekend in Fallbrook and Santa Bro Brah, check those grindspaces for more info.
I'm not really sure of the music tastes of the people who check this blog but if you are into angry/fast punk and hardcore there are some really great bands putting out quality jams as of late: Never Healed, Skin Like Iron, Alpha & Omega, Rotting Out just to name a few. Enjoy. Good luck on the waves, good luck on the road, and good luck on the tracks.

Stephen (pronounced STEF-EN, unless your his fiance) had a shocker but by no means the wildest of the trip. Stephen lost his mind and I guess tried to find it by getting blind drunk. He ended up jacking a bottle of whiskey from behind the bar, forced our friend Scott to flush his perfectly operating phone down the toilet, and then tried to get everyone to bail back to seal beach at 2:30 am. Thankfully he didn't ask anyone to put their cig's out on his chest again. Jes Who?

I didn't do any skating but I did manage to demonstrate remarkable will power in only dropping about 40 bones on wax at Amoeba and Rasputin in Berkeley and SF.
The weekend was wrapped up at AT&T Park for the Giants v. Pirates game where it was free Bengie Molina bobblehead giveaway night. I hate the Giants so you can find mine on eBay...Go Dodgers!
Hope you enjoyed. If you read this post from work or school I'm sorry, if it was read from home go outside and shred somethin'. Smell ya later.
