The other night I had the good fortune to be introduced to Mr. Mike Watt (a.k.a. the man in the van w/ a bass in his hand) of the Minutemen (and several other bands) an extremely nice fellow. He chatted with us outside of the club for quite a bit before and after the show and even gave us a tour of his new van, or boat as he called it. Hanging with the dude cemented my love for the Minutemen that much more. Here is a clip of Watt from the We Jam Econo DVD talking about his good friend, the late D. Boon, followed by an acoustic performance of one of my favorite jams, "History Lesson Part II."
A nice clip from a very interesting documentary on the band, a must watch for anyone remotely interested in the concept of punk. I also stumbled across this video the other day from the Kelly Blue Book Youtube page, Watt showing off the new Ford Econoline.

i had an EPIC minutemen documentary recorded on my DVR, in which both these clips were from...i got so ripped watching that.

Stumbled into a long gone bar in hermosa 8 or so years back as some japanese hard core kids were playing upstairs. With Watt. Incredible night. No rock star persona. Let the Japanese kids be the stars, he just played with 'em. Even though he was 100x better. Didn't matter, he did it for the love. He talked to everyone who wanted to talk. Just the fuckin' real deal.
that story describes him perfectly, the real deal. he greets everyone he meets with a double handed hand shake, a pat on the shoulder, and a "much respect brother"
