New Fin

I picked up a 9" Greenough 4A by Larry Allison of Fibre Glass Fin Co.

Sanded for flex and overall sickness. Gonna put it in my new 9'3" Modad which should be finished any day now...

Home.

During the Katin contest. TJ, on his way to a second place finish.

found this at the library - under the genre of "Sicktion"

I like these sea kong videos because whoever cuts them doesn't even bother to fuck with laying down some shitty song for each clip. Seriously. Big time kudos for saving me the mute stroke on my keyboard! Oh and this is sick as fuck surfing wise.

Trevor

I found some photos floating around on the interweb.

Here is S&D amigo Trevor gettin' nasty on southside.

I remember watching body boarding videos, especially the No Friends videos, at my friend's houses in high school. Sometimes they referred to this place as "Spot X"

Here is a photo of Sluggo from 2 summers ago. If you can't tell, I haven't been surfing much, so I am reaching into the archives for material.

Homemade Thud-Staff (The Boat)

Here is the first of (hopefully) many guitars to come out of the Celic garage. Plenty of carving and grinding, some guts from an old axe, a Watt Sticker and voila!

I don't know why but I thought it screamed Greg Ginn. It looks like shit, but in a really cool way. This was an excellent start but the next one needs a hand crafted neck as well. Smell ya...

Svrf and Destroy theory 666 (Upper Division) with Nevada Ryan

My friend Nevada (yea like the state) sent me this write up he had to do for some class at ucsb. Pretty classic...

Inbox re: pubes/anal/blackchicks/naziskullfucking ( a real attention grabber I must say)

Body :
so I had to analyze a website for this super gay internet class I'm in. naturally I did it on your hessian blog-site. I may have put some words in your guys' mouths just to make it more academic-sounding but for the most part i feel it hit the bulls-eye. i pasted it for you below to read if you're bored/have whiskey dick and cant tug your shit. ps sick ass anti-christ-mas tree. xoxo

According to the creator, Daniel “Danimal” Hernandez, the Svrf and Destroy blog-site is a “vehicle to talk shit, talk svrf, and stimulate conversation.” Operated by Orange County and Los Angeles locals that are everything from professional surfers and snowboarders to photographers and artists, the Svrf and Destroy online experience is far from a bore. The site’s members list their interests on the home page as “surf, sharks, books, skate, bicycles, microbrews, snow.”

If you’re in the mood to read daily posts from bloggers named Lightgnar, murdercity, or doucheMcGregor about beer connoisseurship, new music, literature, surf sessions, or happenings in the surf/snow/skate industries, then S&D might be of interest to you. Also subject to their cynical wit are ridiculously funny videos that you otherwise would never see, rants about how much they hate yuppies, kooks, and jocks, and simply daily occurrences in their lives that happen to be much funnier/more exciting/more interesting than yours. S&D also hosts 21 links to websites that are either member-affiliated or are simply of particular interest to them, consisting mostly of surfing sites and other blogs.

The best thing about the site is that its members keep things fresh with daily posts. In addition, something can be said about the general attitude of its members, which is characterized by the simple desire to do what you love and love what you do, despite living amidst a society they feel is disillusioned by a monotony disguised as happiness.

However, there are a few operational nuances that I found slightly annoying on the site: 1) the sea-foam green font on post headings is difficult to read against the gray background, 2) I personally like to at least put a face or a basic description of the people whose work I read. However, not all the bloggers on S&D have adequate profile descriptions, so unless you know them personally you’re kind of in the dark as to who is speaking, and 3) if you find yourself clicking around the site, there is no “home” button or link to direct you back to the first page.

In sum, I chose to describe the Svrf and Destroy blog-site because it’s funny and appeals to my own interests. If you surf, like beer, or just want to laugh (who doesn’t want that?), then I suggest you “surf” on over to svrfandestroy.com and feel the burn.

Come On Up To The House

My dear friends Adam and Andrew Celic of The WildBunch will be rocking the house tonight @ Dipiazza's in Long Beach. They play good ol' American rock & roll (with the occasional Hüsker Dü/Stooges cover) so come on out and have a beer n' listen. How can you say no to that flyer?

Punk Rock Changed Our Lives

The other night I had the good fortune to be introduced to Mr. Mike Watt (a.k.a. the man in the van w/ a bass in his hand) of the Minutemen (and several other bands) an extremely nice fellow. He chatted with us outside of the club for quite a bit before and after the show and even gave us a tour of his new van, or boat as he called it. Hanging with the dude cemented my love for the Minutemen that much more. Here is a clip of Watt from the We Jam Econo DVD talking about his good friend, the late D. Boon, followed by an acoustic performance of one of my favorite jams, "History Lesson Part II."

A nice clip from a very interesting documentary on the band, a must watch for anyone remotely interested in the concept of punk. I also stumbled across this video the other day from the Kelly Blue Book Youtube page, Watt showing off the new Ford Econoline.

Enjoy...and in the words of Mike Watt, "Start your own band!"

Psychage

Just got back from ASR. A bit more tame than it has been in the past. Got to meet Herbie and Dibi Fletcher. I was pretty psyched on that. Herb rules.

Stimulus overload. Volcolm booth was blasting banjo music the whole goddamn day. They were pretty damn rude to all the workers who had to sweep up all the fucking hay they threw everywhere. Just an observation. Definitely was not psyched on that.

Side note, where the hell do they find the girls in bikini's that walk around and invite you to parties you would never ever want to go to? Two girls followed this dude around all day, they were dressed as babies in diapers. WTF. Self respect. Get some. Not psyched on this either.

Was psyched to meet up with Joel Tudor and Al Knost for a bit.

Slept on the floor at Courtney and Allie's. Drank a lot of beers with Stephen. Very psyched on them. I always enjoy the hospitality.

Didn't surf at all. Not psyched.

Major psych-age if you can't tell.

Majorly psyched on this little gem...

A quick .gif from the pier of where eagles dare shredding the storm sludge, and a shot of the apocalyptic sunset. Douche mcgregor and dude.economy paddled out a little later, but no pictures of them.

Murder Montage...

I went on a film shoot with some of the Vans snow team riders, while we were there I talked the Park Staff at Mt. Loon to set us up a night shoot on some of their features...It was my first time in New Hampshire and I don't understand how people live in that kind of cold...

I think I want to be in the secret service

Tinted windows aren't just for smokin and boozin...I always wondered what was going on in those yukons that follow the president. Man these guys don't fuck around.

Black Cab Sessions!!!

I find this website pretty awesome... These guys get bands and members of bands to have a private session in the back of a black cab... Some are lame but they have some gems on there... Check out the FLEET FOXES and SPOON sessions...

The world could use more Tyler's

One time one of these little bastards crawled behind wiggy's fridge and then bit him on the hand after wiggy tried to free him. After showing a fellow surfer in the seal parking lot the wound (complete with dried blood) he laughed it off and exclaimed "I don't think it broke the skin".

My New Stick!!!

If any of you dudes are a fan of "The 13th Floor Elevators" then you could really enjoy this board's graphic... This graphic is the album cover of the bands 60's debut "The Psychedelic World of the 13th Floor Elevators." I just got it yesterday and I am very excited to shred it. The side cut is on point and the twin tip nose and tail are wide so you can lock those nose and tail presses through any kind of rail. The flex is not too hard or soft, it is right in the middle and i think it is going to make for a great all around shred stick...

visit artecsnowboards.com to check out this years collection of boards!!!

Enjoy!

For Sale

5'6 EC Anthrax (80's style fool, short and stubby) in pristine condition.
I realize it's pretty short but if you know a young grommet who is looking for a sled get at me. And if for some perverse reason your not down with the descendents or black flag it's nothing a little paint thinner won't solve.

If you thought your life sucked

Just look at Mr. Jon Arbuckle, he is fucking miserable. I don't know if its because I was a huge Garfield fan as a kid, but I find this site (Garfield Minus Garfield) hilarious here is their mission statement: "Garfield Minus Garfield is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle. It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb." If you have some time to waste check it out.

Snow Treat!!!

On Wed. I met up with the "Ashbury Eyewear" dudes for some fun in the sun on our shred sticks... Lance Hakker and his fellow twin Big Mountain Mike had a little "Elph" (Canon powershot for you newbies) so we decided to document our day of shredding and hanging out...Ashbury Eyewear is headed by The Hakker brothers and Fellow pro snowboarder Nima Jalali, they have a real psychedelic 60's garage band vibe and I dig it. They have awesome shades and amazing goggles so I suggest you check them out at Ashburyeyewear.com

Show me the way to the next whiskey bar

I'm certain that on any given Tuesday night I'm sipping a beer with someone cooler than you. Case and point -

In other news, E to the C, Eric Christhenson has some sicky sleds down at Katin Surf Shop...Have a gander

5'7 phantom of the agua!

7' something Freeride single fin - These boards work really well at any length - 5'5 to 8'0, single fin or fonzer!

6'6 freeride fonzer!
So the story goes like this - Some whiny, bonzer snob, assclown cried to the cambell bro's that ec was making bonzers. Eric got a phone call shortly after from a surly malcolm campbell telling him that he wasn't allowed to call his five finners "bonzers". Never mind that the entire surf world refers to any 5 fin as a "bonzer", but EC is a nice dude and thus the FONZER was born.

DJ Z-TRIP

So lately I have been Jamming this guy Dj Z-Trip he is fucking sick... Him and Shepard Fairy were puuting on a bunch of fundraisers for the Obama campaign prior to his election. At the fundraiser z-trip would spin these mixes that are pretty awesome, they include some bush bashing and some of Obama's thoughts about hip hop, I found the whole thing to be pretty cool. There is a free download available at http://www.djztrip.com/obama/

enjoy...

You can also get a bunch of his music for free at djztrip.com

I played in this band Island Eater whose on an "indefinite hiatus" anyways the mastering for the EP "Poseurs" has finally been completed. If you were a fan of fan of old 18v you might like this, maybe. Island Eater - Poseurs

Also Manny and Daniel (from Island Eater) went on to form this hipster dance party band, sort of in vain of reggie and the full effect (sort of). They have a free show this This Thursday @ Que Sera in Long Beach . . . Check em out if you have nothing better to do.

Don't fuck with the apocolypse

This one was too good not to post as well.

DisneyNature

After sneaking into Phillip Seymour Hoffmans recent failure "Doubt" I came across a billboard for DisneyEarth. Being intrigued I came home to find a trailer for it, though it looks like a Planet Earth rip off this new DisneyNature brand seems to have something going. I also checked out "Les Ailes Pourpres" a Flamingo documentary whose entire soundtrack is done by The Cinematic Orchestra.

Earth comes out April 22nd (Earth Day) they better have an IMAX release

Don't Try

I was sitting around this afternoon after a morning surf doing some reading and felt like going on a nice drive. I figured I'd pick up some buds and head to Pedro to visit Hank...
We poured out a little bit of Danimal's finest home brew for him (I think I owe you $1 for a bottle).

This band is called the Dead Kennedys. This song is called Nazi Punks Fuck Off.

Greatest Band of All Time?

I stumbled upon this gem on the web today, and let me tell you it is definitely worth 9 minutes of your time to watch.

The reaction from the crowd is priceless, facial expressions and heckles ect. I love the can of Mountain Dew in the foreground along with the "your trapped in your own ego fucker" comment. Enjoy.

FVCK IT, I LOVE RAP!

And there are usually one or two albums a year that make me realize this, last year was UGK "Underground Kingz" double cd . . . and I already know this year its Paper Route Gangstaz "Fear and Loating in Hunts Vegas" besides the whateverz title the cd makes me want to break my neck while taking a embalming fluid dipped bleezie to the dome. Its got that vibe everyone wants from a rap cd. And best of all its FREE (kinda) you can pay anywhere from $0-$4.99 and get 16 songs at 192kbps(meh quality) but if you donate anything over 5 bones you get the full 21 track release at 320kbps(stargaze quality). Regardless its worth checking out . . .

PVRPLE MERCY

Fuck yes I have been waiting for this band to get going ever since Life Long Tragedy broke up last year. It's dark, heavy, sludgy, and your family is guaranteed to hate it. They're satanic and stoned out of their minds...

Reminiscent of Cursed (rip) or maybe some Eyehategod if you will. The name is Pvrple Mercy...get into it.
