San Francisco

Just got home from San Francisco yesterday. Good trip. Surfed twice at Ocean Beach with my buddies Adam and Julio. I had been checking the reports and forecasts and didn't know what to expect. Head high? Triple Overhead? Flat? Everyone I had spoken to about the place told me to pack a big board and my balls. Well, I brought my 5'7" Frodo quad, 6'0" EC thruster, and a 6'11" GNK mini gun.

Anyways, it was a little overhead both days, cold, (nothing a good 4/3, hood, and booties couldn't fix) and pretty fun. I rode my 6'0" both times. There were still dudes out on 6'5" Black Beauties and 7'0" CI Guns though, which I didn't really understand. A few tough paddle outs, but nothing to write home about.

I had a pit stop in Santa Cruz to drop a board off and meet up with a buddy. We took PCH north to the city and I saw some super fun looking waves on the way up.

All in all. I didn't score, but at least I know where to go and that the area has a shitload of potential. I'll be back soon enough.

Disclaimer.

The dude paddling out didn't make it more than 30 yards from the sand for at least ten minutes. He eventually made it out.

Remember that scene in the North Shore when Kiani meets Rick while riding her horse on the beach? I didn't see any hot Hawaiian chicks on the beach here.

Julio brough his alaia and a hull. Ideal quiver for the conditions.

Julio's wetsuit had tar on the neck from a previous surf trip. Needless to say, he had scrubbed all the skin off the back of his neck by the end of the trip getting it all off.

North of Pigeon Point looked pretty gnar.

The lighthouse at Pigeon Point. I saw the biggest sea lion I have ever seen kicking it on the beach here.

I barely took any photos this trip. It was kinda difficult to fuck around with a camera out in the water. Numb hands. Clean up sets.

I didn't see it, but I heard a few dudes hooting after Adam got shacked on a good one.

Highlight of the trip was probably my trip to City Lights bookstore where I bought, A Field guide to Demons, Fairies, Fallen Angels, and Other Subversive Spirits. Nothing like some light reading on the crapper.

The Surfer Mag message board has some diamond in the rough threads. Here is one about some guy's solo Baja trip. Octafish goes to Hexico.

I am still in San Francisco, I will have some photos posted Saturday. Happy New Year.

Bali and Destroy

My buddy Scott has been in Bali basically since we graduated college in '07. He just sent me these photos today. That's him stuck inside on the second photo. Looks like super fun nuggety nugz out there.

I think he is going to Chile next. He's mental. Nicest guy you'll ever meet.

From the Archives

Here are some shots from about 6 or 7 years ago.

Me at Seal Beach's Jericho's Kids for clean waves contest. I think I'm about 16.

Two of TJ in Hawaii. I think he is 17 in these shots.

New Shred Sleds

My buddy Tyler is gearing up for a boat trip to Indo. Rad, I know.

Anyways, he had two new Stretch Round Pin Quads dropped off today. A 6'3" and a 6'6"...

Kinda bums you out to look at them when the waves suck here huh?

Sorry the pictures suck.

Need some cheese?

This is technically surf related. Remember 'In God's Hands' when the guy gets malaria and freaks out? Then his mentor drowns himself out of shame. Then Shane Dorian gets philosophical...

Catch malaria — and get $4,000 for it
Volunteers would be bitten by infected mosquitoes in vaccine study

SEATTLE - The Seattle Biomedical Research Institute will pay volunteers as much as $4,000 to be bitten by mosquitoes infected with malaria.

Scientists say no lives are in danger because the volunteers can be cured. The institute is testing which vaccines work fastest.

The head of the program, Dr. Patrick Duffy, said volunteers will spend several nights under medical supervision in a hotel.

All of the human trials will be reviewed for safety by the Food and Drug Administration.

I have said it before and I am going to say it again.

Go check out my buddy Kyle's blog. He never ceases to amaze me with his photography and overall shenanigans. Simply radical.

Had to get away for the weekend. Took some bro's, boards, and bikes up to Santa Barbara for the weekend.

Very wild.

Mail Call

Fellow blogger, Ryan Tatar of Shakas and Singlefins, was kind enough to send me a print of one of his photos. Thanks!

Check his blog out, it is always full of unique photography. It will probably blow your mind a bit. Not that that's a bad thing.

In other news, I will be venturing to Santa Barbara this weekend to meet up with douchemcgregor for some surf and cycling. Should be fun.

San Diego

Murdercity and I ventured down to ASR this weekend. Besides free a free sushi dinner, this was the coolest thing we saw.

ps. I met Mitch Abshere and he told me about his new fin company, Captain Fin Company, very rad.
