Finds

Made an unexpected trip to the record store today and found some nice picks. All three in very haggard condition but they all play well so far. I'm especially pleased about the 5 LP live Springsteen shit, I've been eyeing it for a while and today I figured for $14 why the hell not.

Kick Out the Jamz

Made my monthly amoeba run last night and had some good finds...
STZ Human Performance 7" was a mail order that came yesterday as well I just threw it in because they are absolutely killer, listen to them! Classic Billy Bragg, Elvis Costello & the Attractions live @ Hollywood High in 1978 (awesooooome version of "Accidents Will Happen"), Moz b-sides from Bona Drag, Kill Uncle, and Your Arsenal, as well as some classic late 1960's skinhead reggae from Trojan Records. Bye-bye paycheck...

Mail Call

I ordered these records in November and they didn't show up until today. I had more or less forgotten about them so seeing them on my doorstep today was quite a pleasant surprise.

I got Virgin Witch's self titled 7" and the Cracked Pelvis ep from Mature Situations. Mature Situations is a shitty punk band and the Virgin Witch 7" is kinda sludgy and evil. They're both out on free cake records which has a pretty killer media library worth checkin out: http://www.freecakefreecake.com/main.php?p=media. The Surroundings album on there sounds choice and I'll be ordering it shortly.

On a related note I somehow managed to slip out of Amoeba the other day with two of my favorite records for under $20. Tom Waits' Nighthawks at the Diner and Billy Bragg's Workers Playtime, shit yeah for me.

Muzak Review by Stephen Vol. 1

Yeasayer - Odd Blood (2010 Secretly Canadian)

I recently saw a preview for a movie called “Hot Tub Time Machine” where said hot tub transports people back in time! Little known fact is that this movie is based on actual events. Shortly after finishing their debut album “all hour cymbals” the dudes in Yeasayer were partying in a certain New York socialites plush Manhattan apartment. Cristal was flowing like nectar from the heavens, the sweet smell of cannabis permeated the crisp air of aristocracy, and word on the street is someone dosed the caviar with LSD. Sometime around 4:00 am the boys in Yeasayer found themselves in the magical hot tub with a plethora of swarthy naked Brazilian models. After a night of debauchery the band woke up disoriented and hung over to find themselves in the apartment of Gordon Gekko, in 1987! The band, never a group to waste time, immediately headed to the studio to write their new album which was slated to be the soundtrack for “Weekend at Bernie’s”. Unfortunately, the album’s big screen debut never came to fruition due to a tear in the space time continuum and instead came out in 2010 after the LSD had finally worn off.

Welcome to the Team

Our good pal Stephen slays guitars and knows his tunes. He currently hails from somewhere in the bowels of San Diego.

He will be sending in music commentary/reviews every now and then. Hopefully he will turn you on to some solid tunes or in the very least, insult a band you like and hurt your feelings.

Murder City Devils

About 15 of us went to see Murder City Devils back in February.

Rather than drive and remain sober, Figgy's mom and stepdad volunteered to drive us. His mom runs a day care center and has a little short bus thingy. Perfect. Ample room for all. Designated drivers. Road sodas for all in the back of the bus.

The show ruled. The band that opened was pretty radical, I can't remember what they were called. Chad was supposed to burn me their cd.

Anyways, show starts. Crowd surfing ensues. Swaying in a sweaty sea of whiskied up fans.

Show is over. James' shoes were sucked off while crowd surfing halfway through the show. That didn't stop him. I had skate hi's on and my feet were constantly crushed and my shoes were filthy. Here he is in all his glory.

Surf Knot

Last night at Shelter. Free T-cats. Old friends. New friends. Skating on a ramp/van by E. Trine. Music by the Mattson 2, who were actually pretty good, I was impressed. Art.

All in all it was pretty cool. I didn't stay for the movie though.

Cool print.

Dungeon of Doom

This blog rules. Dungeon of Doom. The first post had me hooked...

"Usually when i wake up in the morning, i sit down at my desk, check the surf, and cruise on to www.surfline.com for some videos and pictures to pass my morning by. i usually scoff at the shitty music that playing behind the surfing. Do all surfers have shitty music taste nowadays?"

Exactly. Douche, Lightnar, and I have had this conversation a few times. Why does surfing love shitty music? Watch any video posted on Surfer, Surfline, etc. and prepare to have your eardrums raped by Mickey Avalon.

And longboard movies were always the WORST! Fvck surf guitar. Fvck super slo-mo. I love Herbie Fletcher, but his movies always had the most terrible soundtracks. Douche and I had nowhere else to turn to get our Tudor fix.

Happy Birthday Hank

Today, 2.13.08, is Henry Rollins' birthday. He is 47. He will still beat your ass.

I know his birthday party will definitely not be like this...

Wait a second...Hank probably doesn't even celebrate his own birthday. He would probably shove his birthday down your throat. Like this.

Rollins in top form... as always.
